The Winnipeg Trolley Company has been dubbed “The Best First Thing To Do In Winnipeg!”, and it’s not hard to understand why. If you’ve never been to Winnipeg, you just buy a ticket, jump on this awesome retro-styled trolley, and get to a guided tour of over 85 sites in our city.

Ben Gillies is one of the masterminds behind this awesome tour company, and when he was looking for an overhaul of his tour brochure, he got in touch with my fiancee, who runs a branding agency called Bloom & Brilliance.  Janelle is fucking awesome at helping clients develop their brands and build their websites, but doesn’t do much in the way of illustration.

I do a LOT in the way of illustration. I jumped at the opportunity to try my hand at something a little different than my usual noir/gore style, and loved it. Not only did it give me a greater appreciation for the diverse architecture we have in this city, but I also got to practice drawing buildings, which I’m going to need to be pretty fucking good at since my first graphic novel takes place in a 1930’s city.

Anyway, enjoy this mini gallery of some of the artwork and of the final brochure, designed by Janelle Desrosiers @ Bloom and Brilliance, with illustrations by yours truly. Brochures are free for the taking, and can be found at various hotels in the downtown area. And whether you’re visiting Winnipeg for the first time or have lived here forever, the tour is a good fucking time. You’ll be surprised how much you didn’t know about our fair city, smack dab in the heart of the continent.

I had a blast doing this, and if Ben at the Winnipeg Trolley Company ever needs a new brochure, he knows who to come to.

PS) If he does get us to redo the brochure eventually, I’m going to suggest he let me draw some fucking dinosaurs or zombies or something. I had a good time rendering the buildings, but I still found they were lacking some energy.

PPS) For anyone interested, I’m thinking about releasing all 30+ drawings as a limited edition postcard set later this year. Leave a comment below and let me know if you guys would be interested in that!!
